Promoting Play, Participation and Child Well-Being

Project Khillona

Play is an important part of childhood. It supports social interaction, creativity, communication, confidence and learning, while providing children with opportunities for recreation and self-expression. Project Khillona was a documented toy-distribution initiative undertaken in partnership with Sun Life Asia Service Centre India during 2017–18. The initiative provided 600+ toys to children across two community settings in Delhi. The distribution included children connected with Project Lal Batti in R.K. Puram and children living at an orphanage in Nizamuddin West.

The Khillona Drive Across Delhi

Project Khillona brought together Save The Quest and Sun Life Asia Service Centre India through a community-focused toy-distribution drive.

During the 2017–18 period, more than 600 toys were distributed collectively across two groups of children in Delhi.

The available annual report records the combined distribution figure and does not provide separate numbers for each group. Accordingly, the figure of 600+ toys represents the total documented distribution across both locations.

Children Connected With Project Lal Batti

Children associated with Project Lal Batti in R.K. Puram were among the beneficiaries of the Khillona distribution.

The initiative extended the support provided through the broader community engagement with children in the area, adding opportunities for play, recreation and social interaction alongside educational activities.

Children in Nizamuddin West

The distribution also reached children residing at an orphanage in Nizamuddin West.

Together with the children connected with Project Lal Batti, this group formed part of the combined beneficiary base recorded for the 2017–18 Khillona drive.

The initiative sought to ensure that children in different care and community settings could access age-appropriate opportunities for play and recreation.

Play as Part of Child Development

Project Khillona recognised that children's development extends beyond formal education.

Access to toys and recreational activities can create opportunities for children to:

  • Explore and express themselves
  • Develop creativity and imagination
  • Interact and play with peers
  • Practise communication and social skills
  • Make choices and participate in group activities
  • Experience recreation as part of everyday childhood

The initiative therefore positioned play as a meaningful component of child well-being and holistic development, rather than treating toys only as material gifts.

Working With Sun Life Asia

Sun Life Asia Service Centre India collaborated with Save The Quest to implement the documented toy-distribution activity.

The partnership enabled the initiative to reach children across R.K. Puram and Nizamuddin West, demonstrating how corporate participation can contribute to community-level interventions addressing children's developmental and recreational needs.
