Quest Public School, Bihar
Access to education requires more than the availability of a school. Children need qualified teachers, appropriate learning materials, supportive learning environments and opportunities to participate consistently in education. Quest Public School was established to strengthen access to education across three rural communities in Bihar through school branches in Mohinuddin Nagar, Karmaunai in Gaya and Kuamardhi in Jehanabad. At the time covered by the project profile, the three branches collectively served 230 students and were supported by 12 teachers and 3 helpers. Students received classroom education along with essential learning materials, including books, notebooks and stationery. The initiative also placed emphasis on increasing the enrolment of girls.
Bringing Education Closer to Rural Communities
Quest Public School was developed as an effort to strengthen educational access in rural Bihar, where geographical, socioeconomic and resource-related barriers can affect children's ability to participate in formal education.
By 2016, Save The Quest's project records documented three school branches operating across different communities in the state.
Each branch was supported by its own teaching and support team, while students received essential learning materials required for classroom participation. The approach brought together educational access, teaching support and basic learning resources within the community.
Three Branches, 230 Students
The project profile recorded the following:
- Mohinuddin Nagar: 80 students, 4 teachers and 1 helper
- Karmaunai, Gaya: 65 students, 4 teachers and 1 helper
- Kuamardhi, Jehanabad: 85 students, 4 teachers and 1 helper
Together, the three branches accounted for 230 students, 12 teachers and 3 helpers during the period covered by the project profile.
Supporting the Conditions for Learning
Educational participation depends not only on access to teachers but also on the availability of basic learning resources.
Quest Public School provided children with free books, notebooks and stationery, helping reduce some of the direct material costs associated with schooling for families.
By integrating classroom teaching with learning materials, the initiative sought to create a more supportive environment for children's regular participation and continued learning.
Strengthening Girls' Access to Education
The project also identified girls' education and enrolment as an important area of focus.
In communities where social and economic factors can influence educational participation, increasing girls' access to schooling is an important step towards strengthening educational equity, participation and future opportunities.
Quest Public School therefore included efforts to encourage the enrolment of more girls across its school branches.
Local Teaching and Support Teams
Each school branch was supported by four teachers and one helper, providing a dedicated teaching and support structure at the community level.
Across the three locations, this represented a team of 12 teachers and 3 helpers during the period covered by the project profile.
The presence of local teaching teams helped establish a consistent educational environment within each community and supported the day-to-day delivery of classroom learning.
What Quest Public School Brought Together
Quest Public School brought together several essential components of a community-based education intervention:
- Three school branches across rural Bihar

- Support staff at each branch
- Free books and notebooks
- Free stationery and learning materials
- A focus on increasing girls' enrolment
- Community-level access to structured classroom education
Together, these elements were designed to reduce practical barriers to schooling and create the basic conditions children needed to access education, participate in learning and continue their educational journey.
